What Is Your Calling?

A question that can sometimes spark confusion or fear. It can be overwhelming to try and figure out what our calling in life is – what our purpose is supposed to be and if it’s bigger than what we are doing now.

Do you know what your calling is? I have a better question – one that will take you to the root of where the answer lies.

Do you know the One who is calling you?

If we don’t know the One whose voice beckons our movement towards eternal purpose, it makes sense why the thought of recognize that calling would overwhelm us.

2 things to keep in mind when facing this question:

  • Our calling as followers of Jesus is first and foremost to follow Him and pursue Him with all of our hearts.

Our calling is to put Him first and only then can we step into wherever He wants to take us – places we could never get to one our own.

  • We need to make sure that we are not missing what He is placing in front of us today.

I have found that focusing on the opportunities He has given me today is the quickest way to reach the ones He wants me to step into next.

Our God is not a complacent One, and you better believe He the opportunities He sets out for us each and every day are not scarce. God’s character is not one that says “if you don’t go this way then I won’t use you.” He says “follow me.” Lately I have been challenged to accept that while I have a burning desire in my heart for a unique purpose that I believe God absolutely placed in my heart for a reason, I cannot get myself there any faster than He can. My vision of this calling is also much smaller than God’s. I know that to be true from the character He has proven to me throughout my life. He always has more for us that we can imagine. Following His calling means right now – today – trusting that wherever He leads you is in the direction that you are called to.

He has a unique purpose for each of us, and He desires nothing more than to use us as much as we will let Him.

God is the one who placed the desire for purpose inside of us. He is in this pursuit with us and He is not asking us to play a guessing game. He is just asking us to follow Him.

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”Isaiah 30:21
